Milwaukee, WI – Mark your calendars for May 9, 2025, as “My Hometown Milwaukee” Day returns to celebrate an award-winning local jazz musician, Jerry Grillo and his beloved song, “My Hometown Milwaukee.” First honored with an official proclamation by Mayor Cavalier Johnson on May 9, 2022, this anthem of civic pride will take center stage once again with a live performance by the jazz icon himself, uniting the community in a tribute to Milwaukee’s rich cultural heritage.
A Milwaukee native, this multi-award-winning artist has enchanted audiences for decades with his soulful jazz compositions. His song “My Hometown Milwaukee” captures the essence of the city, earning widespread acclaim and a cherished spot in its legacy. On May 9, 2025, he’ll perform it live at The Jazz Estate joined by fellow musicians to honor his remarkable career.
In the weeks leading up to the event, a digital campaign will rally support from local businesses, residents, and fans. Restaurants, retailers, and cultural hubs are invited to join by showcasing the official “My Hometown Milwaukee” Day event badge on their social media and posting about the event with #MyHometownMilwaukee, featuring the song in playlists, and offering themed specials.
Businesses who participate will gain digital exposure and recognition at the live show, tying them to a celebration of community spirit and heritage.
“I wrote ‘My Hometown Milwaukee’ to capture the soul of a city that’s given me so much—its jazz clubs, its winged museum, its unbeatable spirit,” stated Jerry Grillo. I love Milwaukee because it’s a place where history swings to a beat all its own, and after 50 years here, I wanted to give it a song that says, ‘This is our time to shine.’ We’re bringing together businesses and residents to highlight what makes this community thrive,” Grillo added.
The celebration kicks off with a digital push in April, inviting Milwaukeeans to stream “My Hometown Milwaukee” and share their city pride online. On May 9, the main event will feature live jazz, community tributes, and surprises to make it a memorable day. Local media and sponsors are encouraged to jump in early to amplify the excitement.

His song “My Hometown Milwaukee” was officially recognized with a mayoral proclamation in 2022, solidifying his status as a local legend.
