Grillo is Hopeful His Tune will become Milwaukee’s Signature Song
Milwaukee, WI -March 7, 2022, Milwaukee Wisconsin musician Jerry Grillo has created a song as a tribute to the city he loves, “My Hometown Milwaukee.” And now, Jerry is working tirelessly to make his song Milwaukee’s anthem, like the Big Apple’s “New York, New York.”
Grillo, a long-time performer and jazz singer, is well known around Milwaukee’s music scene. He has been nominated for – and won – numerous WAMI’s over the past twenty-plus years. His band has appeared at Milwaukee’s Jazz in the Park, Summerfest, Bastille Days, Rainbow Summer, County Park Concerts, River Rhythms, and Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago nightclubs.
The local press and music critics have often compared Grillo to vocal legends Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra. But Jerry prefers to think of himself as an original. Combining the elements of jazz singing with entertaining creates a performance much more than the sum of its parts.
Jerry’s Love for Milwaukee
Some of his fans have encouraged him to head to cities where the lights are brighter and more plentiful opportunities, but Grillo refuses to leave.
“I love my house. I really love Milwaukee. I’m thrilled with what’s happening here – other than the winters,” Grillo explains. “There were so many negatives about moving. But the big reason I stay is all the musicians I can work with here. I feel these people could play anywhere in the world with anybody. They’re exceptional.”
My Hometown Milwaukee
First released in 2019, Grillo composed a song called “My Hometown Milwaukee.” It’s a jazzy love song for the place he calls home.
“Of course, right after the release, the whole world shut down due to COVID,” stated Grillo. “So not many people got a chance to hear it.”
Grillo’s hope for his song is for it to become the “theme song” of Milwaukee. He’d love to hear it played at various sports events, festivals, or anywhere people gather. With residents singing along and tapping their toes, Jerry Grillo remains optimistic about the future.
