Madison— The Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Wisconsin is celebrating 100 years of service to veterans during their 2022 state convention at the Potawatomi Hotel and Casino in Milwaukee, June 7-11th.

The state’s largest combat veteran organization will conduct its yearly business attended by veterans of conflicts that occurred in Iraq and Afghanistan, Kuwait, Kosovo, Bosnia, Mogadishu, Panama, Grenada, Vietnam, Korea, and WWII. Along with yearly scheduled meetings, the convention features special, public events to celebrate this historic milestone.

State Commander, Cory Geisler stated, “We wanted to do something special to commemorate 100 years in business. Wisconsin VFW has done so much for veterans over this millennium and has evolved in relevancy. We are conducting our OEF/OIF Symposium Thursday to recognize the service and sacrifice of our veterans that served in Afghanistan and Iraq. We are reaching out to our Vietnam War veterans to be present and recognize Wisconsin Lao Veterans of America on Friday with USAF MG-ret John Borling. All veterans are invited to attend both events.”

On Thursday evening, Wisconsin VFW is hosting a 1920’s-themed Gala open to the public including the music of the 1920’s era, keynote speaker, Recalibrated Warrior, Travis Mills with a comedy show by Wisconsin Emmy award-winning comedian, Charlie Berens. Special guest, USAF Major General John Borling will attend the fun.

The gala will seat up to 750 guests for commemoration, reflection, tears, laughs, and entertainment with candy stripers, dancing, old-time photos, contests, raffles, and other fun. Live music from the big band era will be provided by Wisconsin’s all women 18 piece band, Ladies Must Swing

“We invite our Wisconsin businesses to attend and be a part of this Gala to show support for those that have served overseas and sacrificed so much,” Geisler said.
